The clip-on tie ...
Thanks to a lovely 4 years in Catholic High School, I know how to properly tie an actual tie. Clip ons are for wimps.

Favorite food at Thanksgiving dinner ...
Usually I'd answer with one word. Turkey.
However seeing as turkey is all I've really been able to eat the past month, I'm kind of gobbled out. So I'm going to have to go with ...
... I don't know what it called.
It's like this corn bread and corn ... it's just a dish full of yummy. I still can't figure out which of my aunts make it. That's my goal this Thanksgiving.

I wish i could be more like ...
Ingrid.
For those of you that don't know, Ingrid is my mother's step-mom, making her my step-grandmother. I don't like saying that though. In a sense that word ... "step" ... doesn't allow the tremendous impact she's had on our lives to shine through. In my family, we don't use the word "step" - there is no need to.
Ingrid is one of those people that makes you believe there is true good in this world. In my entire life, I've never seen her actually get angry. She's the support system of our family.
She is the one that ...
... no matter how old we get - will never forget to give us a birthday card.
... will throw a spur of the moment family dinner simply because she misses us.
... no matter how chaotic our lives may get, won't let us forget that family is truly what matters.
... keeps our family traditions going.
... will drop anything to help you - without you asking.
... with one look, will make you realize you swore ... and feel guilty about it.
Ingrid is the one that, when my grandfather died, would go into the other room to cry ... because she didn't want to upset anyone. She always puts others first ... even when we don't deserve it.
Everyone should be so lucky to have someone like her in their lives.

Featured Menu Items ...
... and I'm back.
If I opened my own restaurant I would want it to feature a little bit of everything. I think I'm going to call it - "GarliCity" ... sounds chic and I could make a fantabulous logo for it. And that has nothing to do with what items I'd like to feature on the menu, so let me get back on track ...
APPETIZERS:
Spinach-Artichoke Dip - creamy and cheesy. Served with your choice of tortilla chips or toasted bread.
Mozzarella Sticks - your choice of dipping sauce - marinara or bbq
Breadsticks - your choice of dipping sauce marinara or garlic butter
ENTREES
Chicken Scampi - Chicken, bell peppers, onions and angel hair pasta with an italian seasoned sauce. it's a wonderfully healthy meal.
Chicken Jambalaya - served over your choice of white or brown rice. (I just made this once, a little over a month ago (when I could still eat spicy food) - I can't remember what was in it, but it was fabulous)
Pepper Steak served over a bed of white or brown rice with seasoned mixed veggies on the side. served with a whole wheat roll.
BBQ ____ 'Wich - your choice of pulled pork, chicken or beef. served with fries (want onion rings instead? ... just $1 more!)
Honey Chipotle Crispy Chicken Crispers .... no, ok, so I am REALLY craving Chili's right now. moving on ...

I believe my calling in life is/was ...
Well, considering this site has seen no action since, what, January - we all know it's certainly not to be a professional blogger!
Anyway, I wanted to start off this year's NaBloPoMo with a truly insightful and somewhat humorous post ...
... yea, I got nothing.
I honestly don't think I have an answer to this. I may have missed the call and they didn't leave a message. I've never really thought about what my calling in life is, I've always just tried to find the purpose in each day as it comes along. Now I'm going to have to really think about this ... and I'll let you guys know if I come up with that witty, insightful answer.

What keeps you going when you just want to quit?
back to blogging, here i go ...
1. i can do it.
it's always been very easy for me to give up on things, i would get to a certain point and say to myself "what are you doing? why are you trying? you're just setting yourself up to fail." yea, my mind worked against me a lot. yet, i've realized that i wasn't giving myself a chance to succeed. i was too afraid of failure, i'd end up sabotaging myself. i need to allow myself to make mistakes. one mistake does not equal failure.
2. my peeps
yea, that's right. YOU! having a support system always helps. having people around you saying "damn, this s*** is hard!" or "i can't feel my legs"- helps to remind me that, yes, it's tough. it's tough for everyone, not just me. i'm not the only one looking at the tv going - "um, my body doesn't do that!" do the squats and then go to friends for a healthy dinner and vent about how you want to throw the skinny chick with the spandex into lake michigan. there is a good ebb and flow when you know other people that are working towards the same goal. you can complain to each other, laugh at how ridiculous you feel doing hip circles and hydrants, exchange stories of recently discovered muscles, all while encouraging each other to continue on and stay on track.
3. the numbers.
seeing the dreaded number go down ... that's a fabulous feeling. an accomplished feeling. it gives you proof that what you are doing is working. plus, having to report those numbers to the peeps mentioned above, helps keep me on track. most days.
4. the mirror.
i want to see what others see. the other day, i was told by a friend that i was beautiful. i laughed at him. not to be rude, but because i just don't see it. i try. i look in the mirror and i just don't see it. i want to reach a point where i am happy with myself. there isn't a number or size connected to my happiness - just a feeling. if i know that i am working on getting healthy and taking good care of myself, then hopefully that girl in the mirror will be able to say "hell yea, i'm beautiful!" ... but i'll probably still laugh when i say it :)
